Airport Car Hire If you are happy to drive on the left then car hire is definitely the best option for your stay in Ayamonte. Whichever airport you are flying to (Faro, Seville or Jerez) if you intend to hire a car it is your best option to hire one at the airport.
Car hire options are limited in Ayamonte. Whereas at the airports the competition amongst the car hire companies is fierce and therefore prices are competitive. As well as a greater number of companies to choose from there is also a wider variety of vehicles available.
Additionally, if you hire a car on arrival it solves your transfer problems. You are likely to pay more in transfer charges than the cost of a hire car. Not to mention the convenience of having a vehicle to use whenever you want.
Driving in Spain and Portugal is not difficult and most people adjust to left hand driving fairly quickly. Traffic in and around Ayamonte is reasonable most of the time. July and August are busy and parking near the centre can be difficult.
The motorways both in Spain and Portugal are very quiet virtually all year round. Only around Seville will you find congestion a problem.
When deciding on hiring a car make sure you select a vehicle suitable for your needs. Air conditioning, especially in summer, is pretty much essential. If travelling with family make sure you have sufficient bootspace for luggage. A Ford Fiesta, for four golfers and the Swedish au pair they met on the plane, could be a bit of a squeeze.
When it comes to finding the best deal make sure you know what you are getting. I would highly recomend that you hire a car on a fully inclusive basis. Fully inclusive with no excess means you have nothing to pay should the car be damaged or stolen. The insurance cover is fully comprehensive and includes all taxes and surcharges.
In the past I have hired a car, arrived at the airport and been asked if I would like to have collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance for €X per day. You are then told the excess, if there is damage, is €800 or something similarly extortionate. You then feel obliged to pay the extra for the CDW and all of sudden your bargain car hire is no longer a bargain.
For your own peace of mind I would not entertain anything but fully inclusive. Also remember if you need extras like booster cushions and childrens car seats to book these in advance, there is often limited availability.
Last but not least don't forget your licence and those of additional drivers. Some companies will accept your photo card others the paper part, I would advise you carry them both. You will also need a credit card when you pick the car up, even if you have already paid up front for the hire charges.

Ayamonte Car Hire Options are limited as there are only a small number of companies operating from the area. There are agencies operating from most of the hotels. However, they do not have cars on site and will bring cars to the hotels for an additional charge.
One of the few occasions it would be sensible to hire your car in Ayamonte is if you are flying in to Faro and flying out from Seville or vice versa. If you hire a car at Faro and wish to return it in Seville the inter-country drop off rates will be extremely high. In this situation it would be wise to

to Ayamonte and hire a car in town and drop it off at Seville.
If you are flying into Seville hire a car at the airport and drop it off in Ayamonte and transfer to Faro.
