Ayamonte Area
General Information

The town is situated in the province of Huelva, Spain. The Huelva province forms a part of the autonomous region of Andalucia along with seven other provinces. The regional capital is Sevilla and this is where the Junta de Andalucia (regional government) sits.

The Huelva and Cadiz provinces combined form the coastal area known as the Costa de la Luz - the Coast of Light. The Ayamonte area is regarded by many as the "Jewel in the Crown" of the Huelva province tourist industry and perhaps the whole of the Costa de la Luz.

The town had an official population of 18,000 in the 2005 census. It is generally considered to have risen above the 20,000 mark in 2007. Visitors boost the population by around 25% during the summer, especially in the months of July and August. Ayamonte has now become one of the principal tourist destinations on the Costa de la Luz.

Our website extends to cover the local areas of Isla Canela , Costa Esuri , Villablanca , Sanlucar de Guadiana as well as Ayamonte Town . Each of these areas has something unique and distinct to offer.

The town has seen a rapid rise in tourism particularly in the last five years or so. This has been partly aided by the attractive way that the Isla Canela beach area has been developed. The more recent emergence of the Costa Esuri golf development has further added to the attractions of the area.

The principal economic driver for the town in the past has been the fishing industry and its' related sub-industries. The fishing industry still plays an important role in the towns economy, although now much reduced due to EC fishing restrictions and the growth of other sectors of the economy.

The emergence of tourism has seen a massive growth in the construction industry, although I sometimes wonder if that shouldn't be the other way round. However, having lagged behind the other Spanish Costas has in the end been to the benefit of the Costa de la Luz.

Development here has not been blighted by high rise ugly coastal resorts, dotted with British & Irish Pubs, Fish & Chips shops and kiss-me-quick hats. The beautiful development of the Isla Canela resort is a case in point.

Being a late developer has had the additional benefit of having lower property prices. Although that said, there have been rapid property price rises in recent years. The Costa de la Luz still offers better value than the other Costas.
