Ayamonte Climate & Weather
Hot summers and mild winters, lets face it we all know why you're heading for Spain! Yes, it's absolutely true, each and every one us wants to escape the winter cold not to mention the summer rain and relax with a glass of Rioja or chilled San Miguel. The Ayamonte weather and general climate of the area is the tonic you have been looking for!
But will you be able to stand the summer heat? Just how many layers will you need for the cool winter evenings? Here we have a guide to the weather and climate of Ayamonte and some useful website links so you can come prepared for your stay.
Ayamonte & Spanish Algarve Climate
The climate of the Spanish Algarve is one of its' greatest attractions. The summers are long and hot with very little rainfall. The coast is usually a little cooler than inland. Sevilla on hot summers day can be torture and has some of the highest recorded temperatures in Spain. July and August are the hottest months.
Winters are mild with some rainfall. Because of the proximity of the Atlantic the rain, when it comes, tends to be in the form of rainstorms. It is not unusual for there to be very heavy downpours with thunderstorms soon followed by clear skies and sunshine. December, January and February are the coldest months.
The Costa de la Luz averages over 3000 hours of sunshine a year, that's an amazing average of 8 hours sun for every day of the year.
Seasons & When to Visit
Summer If you like it hot then this is your season. Average highs for July and August are above 30c, night time temperatures rarely drop below 20c. Rainfall during the summer is rare. The beach is the place to be, Sevillianos flock there every weekend to escape the city heat.
August can be stiflingly hot. A lot of businesses close for the whole of the month and it is difficult to get anything achieved especially in the construction industry.
Autumn Early autumn is still hot but October and November are very pleasant. The mornings and evenings are cool but the afternoons can reach into the high 20s. A great time to explore Ayamonte by foot.
Winter December is traditionally the wettest month of the year and along with January and February also the coldest. Morning temperatures can drop as low as 5c on the coldest of days, the afternoons tend to warm up in the sunshine and often reach 20c. The rain tends to come in a deluge and then weeks can go by without a drop.
Last Decemeber and January were exceptionally mild, we spent New Years Day on the beach with the kids making sandcastles in their shorts. But February saw the log fire lit pretty much every day. This being the Coast of Light the day light hours are longer than virtually anywhere in Europe.
Spring This is probably my favourite time of the year. The weather starts to warm up and the countryside is at its greenest after the winter rain. A great time to visit with little rainfall and warm temperatures.
