Ayamonte Taxi Services

Ayamonte, unlike many other resorts, is not awash with taxis. In fact at times they are as rare as rocking horse manure. The Spanish have a saying, 'work to live, not live to work'. The local taxi drivers have taken this to a new level.

We discovered this for ourselves on one of our early visits to the area. We stayed in an apartment on Isla Canela and caught a taxi to the town for an evening meal. After the meal, around 11.30, we asked the waiter to call a taxi for us. He looked astounded, as if to say 'you want a taxi at this time of night!'.

He then explained it would be impossible to get a cab at this hour. After explaining our plight to him, he told us to sit put & order some more wine. After his shift finished he gave us lift to Isla Canela and wouldn't accept a penny. He still works in El Choco and we visit him on a regular basis these days.

The situation has improved somewhat these days but it can still be difficult to catch a cab, especially late in the evening. During the day when the demand is low you will see loads of taxis at the rank!

Taxi Ranks

There are two ranks in the town:

Paseo de la Rivera: Opposite the marina next to one of the main Plazas in town. Here you will find the main taxi rank.

Bus Station, Avenida Cayetano Feu: Outside the bus station a short walk from the town centre.
