Ayamonte Train Services
Train Services In Spain There is no train station in Ayamonte and the nearest station on the Spanish side is at Huelva and on the Portuguese side at Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Rail services have run as far as Ayamonte in the past, the old train station sat where the present Bus Station is now.
Although it is not possible to travel on the train from the town, rail services play an important part for those wishing to travel to and from further afield. The high speed train service, the AVE (Alta Velocidad Espanola), will connect Madrid with every provincial capital in Andalucia by 2013.
The national government has allocated funds for the AVE track to connect Huelva to Seville and the new Terminal in Huelva.
The AVE currently runs from Seville to Madrid via Cordoba. The journey of some 470km is completed in 2.5 hours. The speed, service and standards of the trains are magnificent and put some of the no-frills airlines to shame.
When completed the extension to Huelva will mean a link to Madrid in around 3 hours. This will be fantastic both for tourism and commerce in the province. Combined with the long awaited Huelva Airport the economic prospects for the Huelva region look rosy.
The service from Seville to Madrid runs daily with trains running every half hour in peak times and every hour the rest of the day. On board facillities include Cafe/Bar serving meals & snacks, Shop, Telephone, Music, Video, Disabled Access, Kids entertainment and Baby changing facillities.
Ticket prices start from around €65 for a one way journey in tourist (standard) class. A better option maybe to purchase a single-country Inter Rail ticket. For £82 you can have a ticket that allows you unlimited travel for any 3 days in the space of one month anywhere in Spain. Or 4 days travel for £106.
With a three day ticket, for example, you could leave Huelva and travel to Madrid via Seville on the AVE. Spend a few days in Madrid and then go on to Barcelona spend a few days there. Catch the AVE from Barcelona to Madrid and on to Seville. Connect with the regular service to Huelva all for £82.
Tickets for Inter Rail can be booked online through Railchoice.com, tickets for the AVE service can be booked through the
Renfe
(Spanish National Railway) website in English.
