Faro to Ayamonte
Directions

If you pick your car up from one of the car hire companies at the airport, leave the Airport and follow the signs for A22/N125 Faro. This will take you onto a dual carriageway. If you are picked up by the car hire company and taken to one of their other sites it is 99% likely to be on this dual carriageway, so follow instructions from here.

Exit the airport following signs for A22/N125 Faro and join the dual carriageway. Follow signs for S.Bras/N2, do not turn off. After 5km the road curves off to the right and goes back under the dual carriageway, the slip road then joins onto a single carriage road.

Join the road and continue through 2 sets of traffic lights (easily missed as they are mostly green). After approx 5km you will see signs for S.Bras to the right carry straight on. After a few hundred yards you will see a slip road to the right signposted Espanha/Olhao IP1. Go up the slip road and join the motorway.

Drive along the motorway for approx 50km, you will then pass the Border Control. This is easily missed as it is simply 2 lay-by’s with a couple of small buildings on either side of the motorway, you are extremely unlikely to be stopped.

Approximately 1km after the Border Control you will see the bridge which crosses over to Spain. Once you have crossed the bridge the first exit is only a few hundred yards away. The exit is signposted Ayamonte Norte/Playas, take this exit.

For Costa Esuri, as you come down the slip road it will fork, take the left fork. Turn left at the roundabout and go back under the motorway and then take the next exit sign posted Costa Esuri. Costa Esuri is straight on after a couple of kilometres.

For Ayamonte and Isla Canela take the right fork on the slip road again signposted Ayamonte Norte/Playas. Join the main road and after a few hundred yards you come to a roundabout, the first exit isn’t open yet, take the second exit. Drive up the hill to the next roundabout and take the third exit signposted Centro Urbano. You have now arrived in Ayamonte.

To go to Isla Canela drive down the hill to the next roundabout and go straight on. At the next roundabout go straight again, at this roundabout you will see a shopping centre on your left. Carry on down the hill and you will come to yet another roundabout, go straight on.

Continue on to the bottom of the road, you will pass the Dia supermarket on your left just before you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit to turn right. Continue on to the next roundabout and take the second exit.

After half a kilometre you will see the Hotel Don Diego on your right just before the roundabout. If you are not dizzy with all the roundabouts yet, take the second exit at this roundabout.

Drive straight for a couple of kilometres, passing through three roundabouts, going straight on at each. After the second roundabout you will see the athletics stadium on your right and after the third the football stadium on your left.

Cross the bridge and you are now on Isla Canela. To go to the golf course area take the left turn, second exit, at the third roundabout.

For Punta del Moral, the marina, and Playa Isla Canela areas go to the fourth roundabout after crossing the bridge. The first exit leads to building site, take the second exit for Playa Isla Canela and the third for Punta del Moral and the marina.

When your head has stopped spinning, from the endless roundabouts you have driven through, nip down to the bar and have a chilled beer!
