Hoski's Monthly Pro Golf Blog
John Hoskison is a golf professional in his first season on the European Seniors Tour. John held a European Tour card from 1978 to 1985 and has competed in many European tournaments including the British Open. As well as competing on the Seniors Tour John is one of the pro's at Newbury Golf Centre in Berkshire.
His affection for Ayamonte and the Costa de la Luz led John to purchase a home on the Costa Esuri development, where he can often be found practising on the recently opened course. In the near future he will be organising Tuition Breaks and Pro-Am Tournaments in the area.
John will be writing a monthly blog, about life on the Seniors Tour which we will be posting on these pages. We will keep you posted with information about John and forthcoming events he has in the pipeline.

Life On Tour
Two weeks to go and playing well! The last couple of days I’ve been playing an event on the Jamega Tour at the Warwickshire - 114 pros on a course playing all of its 7000 yards. I played well the first round finishing off with three birdies, then shot 67 (5 under) to finish 2nd. Everything feels good!
As we’re waiting for the show to begin in Poland I thought I would answer some of the most frequent questions I get asked.
Best start to a round?
Birdies at the first five holes in the third round of the Swiss Open (while playing with the American Ryder Cup Captain Lanny Wadkins) – quite a thrill!
Best finish to a round?
Birdie, birdie, eagle, par, birdie, birdie, to finish 15th tied with Seve Ballesteros in the Cannes Open.
Most embarrassing shot?
A shank off the 8th hole in the European Open at Sunningdale which ran down the seventh fairway amongst the thousands of spectators following Sandy Lyle.
Best shot?
Had just won the National PGA Club Pros and Golf Monthly wanted to feature a tuition special with me as the pro. The feature dealt with swing line. I explained that if you slice your divots will go left. If you hook your divots will go right – a straight shot, the divot would fly at the target. They wanted to film me hitting a shot.
I lined up an umbrella to catch the divot and aimed at an oak tree some 200yards away. First shot – the ball hit the middle of the trunk, the divot hit the shaft of the umbrella – and if you look closely at the photo they published you can see the ball as it flies directly over the umbrella shaft. It’s never that perfect!
Winter Tuition Packages
No matter what happens this summer I will be running tuition breaks for golfers of all levels his winter on the Costa De La Luz. If you are looking to improve while having fun in my favourite golfing resort make sure you look out for the packages I will be advertising in the coming months in this newsletter.

I will contact you all again probably after the first couple of events. But in the meantime thank you to everyone who has wished me luck – it’s been really good to read your comments. And thank you to everyone who has wished me happy 50th in advance of 29th May. Fingers crossed for good weather, no injuries and a smooth putting action! Strap yourselves in for the ride!
